Useful Massage Therapy Products
For a massage therapist to provide the stress and pain relief patients seek, massage accessories are often necessary to offer the full benefit of their services. These can be as common as the massage table or chair, to the specialized products used in certain varieties of massage. Whether you’re starting out in massage or have years of experience, a few basic additions to a therapist’s product inventory can make a major difference.
For optimum positioning and comfort, bolsters and body wedges are used to hold the body in a way most conducive to muscle manipulation and patient relaxation. Foam bolsters and wedges are routinely used for therapy massages when patients should be positioned on their sides or in a 3/4 position to target problem areas more easily. Bolsters can also go under the legs and knees, either for comfort or posture correction during a massage and wedge foam pillows can be leaned against to keep a person resting on their side more comfortable during treatment.
For therapists who utilize a table for massage, having one with the right surface is a vital consideration. A table must be soft enough to keep the person comfortably positioned for the duration of the massage. Some tables are overly firm, and can benefit from a covered pillow pad topper to soften the surface. In a pinch, even an exercise foam mat can make a difference and they are easy to sanitize. Pillows are also important for supporting or cradling the head, particularly ones with face cutouts when performing massage on an individual positioned on their stomach. These pillows need to hold the face comfortably while providing easy breathing.
