Cyber security measure blocked in Senate

The Senate failed on Thursday to advance legislation to strengthen protections against cyber attacks, as Democrats banded together to oppose the measure's inclusion in a defense policy bill President Barack Obama has threatened to veto. By a 56-40 vote, lawmakers decided largely along party lines not to move ahead with the measure as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act. It was the third time in three years that the Senate has failed to advance bipartisan cyber security legislation.

The stockholder proposal was filed to change Facebook's voting practices. Swiss investigating Iran nuclear talks spying search house, seize computer

Swiss authorities have searched a house in Geneva and seized computer material in connection with a possible cyber attack on nuclear negotiations between Iran and major powers in the city, Switzerland’s attorney-general said on Thursday. Students riot after Congo cancels leaked baccalaureate exams

Thousands of Congo Republic high school students rioted on Friday in three of the country’s biggest cities following a decision by the government to cancel baccalaureate exams after the questions were leaked online. Chinese Embassy says accusations over U.S. data breach ‘not responsible’

The Chinese Embassy in Washington, responding to reports that China was behind a massive cyberattack on U.S. government computers, said on Thursday that jumping to conclusions was “not responsible, and counterproductive.” Embassy spokesman Zhu Haiquan said China had made great efforts to combat cyberattacks and that tracking such events conducted across borders was difficult. “Jumping to conclusions and making hypothetical accusation is not responsible, and counterproductive,” Zhu said in emailed comments to Reuters.
