Benefits of Fast-Drying Foam

Is the mad scramble to bring all your patio furniture cushions inside during a sudden summer downpour one of your annual seasonal low- lights? Do you always wind up with waterlogged and rotten cushions on board your boat? In these situations and many more, there is a porous, quick-drying foam material, often referred to as “dryfast foam.”

Foam for outdoor furniture needs to be able to stand up to the elements. Regular foam absorbs water like a sponge and can be almost impossible to dry before it starts to get funky. Cushions like these can quickly become moldy and rotten; certainly nothing you want to sit on. Fast-drying foam cushions outdoor and marine surfaces with a wide-celled, reticulated pore structure, uniquely engineered to permit the flow of moisture and passage of air to drain and dry quickly. While traditional foam has cells barely a fraction of a millimeter, quick-drying foam has cells often five millimeters wide. This doesn’t seem like much, but it’s more than enough room to help the cushion drain water and dry.

Many forms of this foam are made with antimicrobial compounds, so if anything is preventing air from drying the cushion foam, like a wet bathing suit or towel, there’s no need to worry about the cushion rotting. When covered in breathable outdoor fabric, dryfast foam can be left on the porch during a rainstorm, and it won’t get waterlogged in a marine environment. If you need cushioning outdoors that is comfortable but durable, fast-drying foam is the right answer.
